Hemi Orolingual Angioedema after tPA Administration for Acute Ischemic Stroke

چکیده
INTRODUCTION As studies continue to demonstrate the efficacy of intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in acute ischemic stroke, the exclusion criteria continue to narrow, and the time-window continues to increase.1-3 The most dreaded adverse effect of tPA, hemorrhagic conversion of an ischemic stroke, is well known and well published.3 However, as an increasing number of patients are receiving tPA worldwide another unusual and potentially life-threatening adverse effect of tPA is becoming more common, angioedema.

Safety and feasibility of intravenous thrombolytic therapy in Iranian patients with acute ischemic stroke
Background: Thrombolytic therapy is the only approved treatment for acute cerebral ischemia. The hemorrhagic transformation is the greatest complication of this treatment, which may occur after recanalization of occluded artery. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with clinical improvement and worsening in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous th...
متن کاملThe Outcome of Treatment With Recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator in Acute Ischemic Stroke
Background: Thrombolytic therapy is the recommended treatment of acute ischemic stroke. It is crucial to evaluate the treatment results with recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator (r-TPA) in patients with acute stroke. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate treatment outcomes with r-TPA in patients with acute stroke in a referral stroke center in Iran. Materials & Methods: In this retrosp...
متن کاملSuccessful systemic thrombolysis with rtPA in a patient with history of a life-threatening rtPA-associated orolingual angioedema
Systemic thrombolysis with the recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) is an effective therapy option in the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke [1]. A rare but potentially fatal side effect is the development of an orolingual angioedema [2]. Because of improvements in acute stroke therapy and an aging population the incidence of recurrent strokes is increasing and results in more patie...
متن کاملRetrosternal mass: An interesting allergic reaction to intravenous thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke
Stroke is an important cause of disability and death worldwide, with the majority of strokes occurring in older people. Thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-TPA) is the approved treatment for acute ischemic stroke. A major concern of physicians, who treat acute ischemic stroke with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-TPA,) is the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage...
متن کاملAssociation of Geographical Factors With Administration of Tissue Plasminogen Activator for Acute Ischemic Stroke
BACKGROUND Intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is an effective treatment for acute ischemic stroke if administered within a few hours of stroke onset. Because of this time restriction, tPA administration remains infrequent. Ambulance use is an effective strategy for increasing tPA administration but may be influenced by geographical factors. The objectives of this study are to invest...
